if you want to transfer data from a PHYSICS computer system to a computer outside the PHYSICS domain (no matter where it is) or if you want to work from home (or whereever) on your PC at work (to read papers etc) you can use the following recipe:

1. Ask SMG for VPN permission to your lab PC
2. at home, as administrator, go to http://www.bitvise.com/downloads/Tunnelier-Inst.exe and install the program
3. Start tunnelier
4. In tab 'LOGIN', enter host ssh1.physics.leidenuniv.nl
5. Port 22
6. Username
7. Password
8. Activate 'Store encrypted password' for your convenience
9. In tab 'Options', enter your computer at work (ie msmxx.physics.leidenuniv.nl)
10. Only enable 'Remote Desktop Connection'
11. Save the profile and log in!
