MPMS-5S Helium transfer
The Squid should be refilled if Helium levels are below 50%
Filling
- Make sure you have a helium vessel that still has enough (what is enough?) helium
- Close all valves of the vessel
- Attach hose to compressor and vessel.
- Open valves between vessel and compressor
- Remove fillcap from SQUID. It will POP out!
- Attach the fill hose (recovery line) between the SQUID and Cryostat.
- Open the valves on this hose.
- Get the large main fill line
- Open red valve on He-vessel. Put the large part of the hose into the vessel at average speed.
- Wait until cold gas sputters out the other end of the fill hose (~one minute). You will get a cold flame.
- Remove the small cap from the recovery line on the SQUID
- Insert the other end of the fill hose in the SQUID. (use heat-gun if it gets suck because it got frozen.
- Go to the computer and select: utilities→helium fill→start
- Plug in the power line of the compressor.
- You are now pumping. It is best to monitor the refill. (It will take about 30 minutes) Pay attention to:
- The pressure (read-out on He-Vessel indicator) should not exceed 0.5 Bar. You can regulate this by clamping the compressor bypass.
- The fill rate (read-out on computer) should be around 1-1.5%/min.
- The Vessel Valve should be heated while filling with the heating gun(at half-heating power), to prevent the valve from freezing.
- There are no instructions yet to stop the filling and disconnect the He-Vessel. Ask for help.
