Dear Federica,

Repair will cost between =A3250 and =A3350.
To replace the linear power supply, it would be an extra =A3150.

If you chose to have it modified, this would include replacing =
conductors with FET reversing switch, an additional =A3900.

If you would like to go ahead with the repair or modification, please =
let us know and we will give you the appropriate authorization to send =
the Power Supply to us.

Best Regards,

Felicia Doughty,
Sales Administrator.

Subject: problems with SMS120C

Dear Mirek,
after a few times we had again problems with our SMS120C power supply. =
This sort of problems (which I will describe below) we had already had =
occasionally before, but now it happens so frequently that normal magnet =
operation is hindered.

Problem 1: as I told you by phone last week, a few times after switching =
on the mains the error is given: "Power fail interrupt fault".=20

Problem 2: when ramping the field (current) to a given set point, both =
the actual output current/voltage and what is indicated on the front =
display start to go wrong. For example, when "ramping to 30A at the rate =
of 0.1A/s", after a while suddenly the voltage becomes negative on the =
display, the current decreases (both on display and on the output) often =
at a much higher rate than the preset, but still the given message is =
"ramping to 30A at the rate of 0.1A/s". If I kick gently on the display, =
suddenly the current increases again as it should and the voltage =
becomes positive. Occasionally the "wrong" behaviour occurs again, and =
again by tapping on the display it can be fixed for a short time. As I =
just said, it's not just a display
problem: when the display shows the negative values, the output reflects =
the values exactly. It has also occurred when ramping down the current; =
then suddenly the power supply would start to ramp up (positive =
voltage).

I have checked for loose connectors inside, in the vicinity of the =
display and on the boards themself, but found nothing obvious. I have =
the feeling that there is somewhere a loose contact on one of the =
boards, or a small crack. I also think that the 2 large relay, when =
switching, shake some connections around and some might have become =
progressively loose.

I tried to call up Cryogenic today, but I guess it's a bank holiday over =
there. Could you please send me a quotation as soon as possible, with =
mentioned the price for the repair and also the cost for the upgrade for =
the reverse switch? Could you also change the "old" low voltage power =
supply as you suggested by phone (the one inside the brass grid-case). =
And finally, would it be possible to receive from you a wooden crate for =
delivering the power supply in a safe way?

Thank you very much for your help and cooperation,

best regards,

Federica
